Sept 20, 2025 – Orting
It was a hazy morning as I made my way to Orting for the Mud Mountain Dam 5k. Mount Rainier was visible, but only as a silhouette, standing out majestic and purple in the distance. The sky cleared up as the day wore on and it was a beautiful sunny, fall morning for the start of the races.
I ran the 5k this year as I was running the Orca 8 mile in West Seattle the next day. I got there super early so I could snag a parking spot near the finish line and avoid the shuttle bus. I still have an ugly memory of the shuttles from 2 years ago when they only had one shuttle bus for getting runners to the start of the half marathon. My luck with shuttles hasn’t been the greatest. Since I was early I took a short jog up the path to get a feel for the course. To say it was flat would be an understatement. The 5k is a simple out and back. The half marathon is a point to point race ending at the same place as the 5k. I got the chance to chat with a few of the regular Silver Strider crowd before the race, which was nice as I wouldn’t be able to stick around afterwards.
There were 185 running the half marathon and 127(?) running the 5k, 25% of which were Silver Striders. This makes for a nice, intimate race. No feeling of overcrowding at the start or finish or along the course. I can’t speak for the start of the half, but the finish line area was well organized.
Andrea Nye was the first Female finisher for the 5k with a time of 25:01 and Anthony Curro was the first Male finisher with a time of 26:22.
Alden Hopkins was the first Male finisher for the half marathon with a time of 1:25:37. Joleen Pereira was the first Female finisher for the half marathon with a time of 1:47:08.

Jerry’s notes: We already have 24 Ambassador Series finishers, with 3 months remaining in 2025. Five of those finishers have won their age division. There should be more age group winners following the Godfather 5k. The following participants have won their age groups:
Mae Elcock – Women 65-69
Nancy Larsen – Women 75-79
Judy Fisher – Women 80-84
Edythe Hulet – Women 85-89
Jerry Dietrich – Men 90-94
