The Kent Cornucopia 5k.

The Silver Strider 5k State Championship was held at the Kent Cornucopia 5k for the 7th year. With the addition of the 10k championships and 3k Championships, some Silver Striders have now collected 5 or more Championship trophies. They are, Judy Fisher, 9 Championships, Keith Lerew 7, Ed Heckard 6, Jerry Dietrich 6, Michael Magnussen 5 and David Crawford 5.
Furthermore, Judy Fisher, Ed Heckard and Michael Magnussen will have a chance to win all three titles (3k 5k 10k) for 2025 at Lakefair.

Once again, Michael Magnussen was the first Silver Strider to finish. Anne Hobson was the first female Silver Strider to finish. Anne Hobson was competing in the women 60-64 age group and finished ahead of the younger champs in their 50’s.

The weather was warm, but not as hot expected. Times were fast and runners put forward their best in this Championship race.
Mark Hendrickson did his usual great job of making sure every detail was perfect. For many years now, runners over 60 get to run this race free. That helps the Silver Strider turnout. You can see by the group photo heading this article. The photo contains only Silver Striders. Group photos of Silver Striders of this size are only seen at this race. It brings back memories of the record setting Boomer Races in the past.
Special recognition must go to Bruce Fisher, who photographs all the race finishers over 50 and formats the photos into Silver Strider results pages. When the number of Silver Striders in a race is this large, his job becomes monumental, and yet Bruce gets quality photos of everyone and formats them beautifully. And he continues to astound us by getting this many Silver Striders to gather for a group photo as large as the one.
Thanks to Bruce’s talent, my job can be described in two words, “copy” & “paste’. Thanks, Bruce.
The Kent Cornucopia 5k race will host the 2026 5k Championship again next year.
