Renton ParkRun #345

January 17, 2026 – Renton

It was a gorgeous PNW day. Perfect day for a race, the sun was out in force and, although it was cold, the temperature was great for running. The course was modified due to part of the trail still suffering from recent weather events. Instead of the usual single out and back, it is a ¾ mile out and back done four times. A bit more tedious than I like but hopefully the engineers will assess and repair the trail soon.

58 runners turned out for the run, nearly half of them Silver Striders. Chris Fisher had the honor of being the 1st Silver Strider and 2nd overall. Shannon Perry was the first Female Silver Strider.

It was good to see everyone again. It’s been over a month since my last Silver Strider event, the Electric Cookie Run. Looks like there is going to be some real competition this year for our Grand Prix Series. Of course, it wouldn’t be a new year for me if I wasn’t hobbled by injuries. As if my sciatica acting up wasn’t bad enough, I decided to kick something the other day and break a toe. I’m beginning to feel like this guy.

Time to get more serious about a stretching routine and strength training, I guess.

Lunch afterwards at the Whistle Stop was nice. Catching up on what people are doing and reminiscing about old times and fast cars. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone next Saturday at the Awards Banquet.

Jerry’s notes: I will start the qualifications for 2026 Ambassadorships on February 7th at the FSRC Resolution Run #2. The reason being I didn’t give everyone notice that the Ambassador program would continue in 2026. In addition, runners at Renton were so bundled up in the photos, I couldn’t tell who might be wearing Silver Strider shirts. I will have shirts and hats for anyone who needs them.
