Silver Strider 8k Championships at Lakefair Races
Lakefair Races July 18, 2026
By Karl Johnson

The weather blessed us again with ideal conditions for racing. So far for July it has been great early morning running conditions. It was a bit cool at the start as the fog rolled in off of West Bay, but after a half mile or so it felt great.
This is a very nice course. The 8k route takes you around the Deschutes River and Capital Lake before going through Marathon Park and Interpretive Park. This was the route for our 8k Silver Strider Championship. Silver Striders turned in some impressive times on the course. Paul Smith claimed 1st place for the Silver Striders and Super Masters-M with a time of 29:36. Noemi Sandholm was the first female Silver Strider and Super Master-F with a time of 37:06.

In the Jerry Miller Half Marathon, the female Super Master was Amanda Hoskins with a time of 1:43:29. Camille Shiflett was the Overall First Female finisher for the half with a time of 1:25:20. The male Super Master for the Half was Richard Brown with a time of 1:26:09. Carrol Morris was the 3k Super Master-F with a time of 19:50 and Bob Brennand was the Super Master-M with a time of 12:53.

This was a well-attended event for the Silver Striders with over 36% of the runners in the 8k being 50 and over. Overall over 27% of the participants in all three events were Silver Striders.
This year there was a slight change to the Start/Finish lines with both the 3k and 8k starting and finishing at the same place. The start line for the Jerry Miller Half Marathon was a couple blocks up the street. It sounds like all three races may be starting and finishing in the same place in the future.

Afterwards, several people gathered at O’Blarney’s Irish Pub to celebrate and share stories and talk of upcoming events.
