4/18/26  – Des Moines
Another beautiful day for a race. The sun was shining and a slight breeze was blowing to keep things cool. It did start to heat up as we drew closer to the start of the race. That’s when it got hot, especially with Chris Fisher burning up the course in heated pursuit of the front runner Tyler, a 17yr old completing his 100th parkrun. Chris finished with an official time of 20:16, just 7 seconds behind Tyler. A sub 20 minute 5k is definitely in Chris’s future, especially now that the Renton parkrun is going back to it’s single out and back course. One turnaround instead of 7 should help him shave a few seconds off his time. Mary Eun was the first female Silver strider with a time of 31:35.

For me, on a more personal level, this was still a struggle. Recovery from that darn sciatica issue is going slower than I would like. It’s taking forever to rebuild my endurance levels to what they once were. It’s probably more mental than physical at this point. Slowly but surely, though, I am making progress. I appreciate people asking about it. That’s what I love about this group, the support and encouragement.

Afterwards we gathered at the Crow’s Nest (formerly Tuscany’s) for brunch and conversation. Always a great time to catch up with everyone.
