Magnussen Wins My Better Half 5k

The third race in the Silver Strider Grand Prix Series was held in Seward Park. The 50 plus turnout was good as runners wanted to get early points in the standings. The first Silver Strider to cross the finish line and gain 10 points was the overall winner, Michael Magnussen.
Michael tamed the big hill in the first mile and coasted to an easy victory over second place male besting him by almost 4 minutes. Younger female runners almost stole the spotlight finishing 2,3 and 4th, overall, at ages 37, 14, and 40.
After the third race in the series, the leaders for the perfect score achievement award were, Edythe Hulet, Judy Fisher, and Steve Husko, with 30 points each. Be sure and check out the Grand Prix Standings by clicking on Series standings on the menu bar. Remember, there are 27 races in the series and you only need to do a minimum of 8 to be a series finisher and receive a trophy and prizes. This year 7 of the races are ParkRuns with -0- entry fee (8 are free if you are over 60 and do the Cornucopia).

The My Better Half 10k
Kent Sizer was the first Silver Strider to finish the 10k. The first female Silver Strider to finish was Ginny Buresh.
In addition to Kent, four Silver Striders gained temporary Super Athlete Contender status pending the 10k chairman’s approval. They are, Audrey Kirkwood, John Phillips, Judy Fisher, and Nanci Larsen.

The My Better Half – Half Marathon
Steve Husko became the first Silver Strider to make temporary Super Athlete qualifier.The first Silver Striders to finish the Half Marathon were, Male – Caleb Perkins 53, and Katy Barclay 51.
