2023 – John Phillips, age 80,  breaks a 17  year old record at the Washington State Senior Games. John ran the 5k in a time of 25:41, breaking George Murray’s record.

July 2018The final Boomer Race was held, ending a 3 year series of races in all age groups. Jane Treleven was crowned Champion of all Boomer age groups for posting a series high world class score of 92.7 %.

Oct 14, 2017 – The birth of the Silver Strider Grand Prix Series Century Club was announced. The 3 charter members were Judy, Dave and Marsha.

Oct., 2019In 2009, Maurice Tarrant of Canada (left) and Jerry Dietrich of the U.S.A. finished 1, 2, at the Victoria Half Marathon in the 75-79 Age Group. Ten years later, in 2019, they met again, now in the 85-89 Age Group, with the same result.

May 2015 – Team Silver wins the Jefferson Cup at the Rhody Run. April 15, 2013Boston…    Silver Strider, Bill Iffrig from Washington is knocked off his feet just a few yards before finishing the Boston Marathon. The terrorist bomb didn’t deter Bill who rose up and finished to win his age group.

April 4, 2009Nobody compiled a record like Keith Wood did after age 80. On this day in 1980 he ran a marathon in 4:18:36 at age 81. Another at 86 in 5:44:14. He went on to run over 200 additional races, including 2 marathons, running his last recorded race at age 92, a 5k in 45:59.

1979 – Silver Strider Jimmy Carter, 55, (wearing headband) runs 10k in 41 min. On March 23, 2019, at age 94, Jimmy became the longest-living president in U.S. history.

1956 – Emile Zatopec, the greatest distance runner of all time, performed a miracle at the 1956 Olympic Games. He won both his heats and the final at 5,000 meters. He won his heat and the final at 10,000 meters. He capped things off by winning the marathon completing a feat unmatched in history.
