The Lakefair 3k, 8k and Half Marathon Races

 TThe Lakefair Races were the designated t-shirt races for 2024. Participants in any of the three  Grand Prix Series races who were wearing their Silver Strider t-shirts or singlets, or their Series t-shirts or singlets, were awarded 10 points regardless of their finishing position within their age group.

Bob Brennand and Ami Smith win the 3k Championship

The Silver Strider 3k Championship was decided quickly as Bob Brennand took an immediate lead and held it to the end. Bob, age 62, bested the younger Silver Striders and almost beat the entire field as he finished 2nd overall in a time of 11:30.

The first female Silver Strider to finish was Ami Smith, age 51, in a time of 15:51.

The competition, with a few exceptions, was not what I had hoped for in terms of attracting elite runners. Making the 3k our championship race was decided in May and left little time to advertise. Also it was not advertised as the 3k championship in our 2024 calendar. Since the 3k distance has been added to the Super Athlete requirements for those over 65, I will be staging 3 time trials later this year which will be Silver Strider certified and eligible for the TOP IO consideration. The Lakefair 3k race will be the Silver Strider 3k Championship race again in 2025.

Women 50-54 – Ami Smith 15:51 SS Female Champion
Men 55-59 – Nathan Niederhauser 33:07
Women 55-59 – Liz Murray 20:49
Men 60-64 – Bob Brennand 11:30 SS Male Champion
Women 60-64 – Laura Parma 18:11
Men 65-69 – Kent Sizer 13:15
Women 65-69 – Mae Elcock 17:15
Men 70-74 – Steve Husko 14:19
Women 70-74 – Sandra Madden 19:39
Men 75-79 – Mike Henderson 16:19
Women 75-79 – Carol Morris 18:52
Men 80-84 – Larry Larsen 31:03
Women 80-84 – Diane Johnson 23:14
Men 85-89 – None
Women 85-89 – Edythe Hulet 33:43

The 3k course was flat and fast consisting of a loop around the lake. The weather was perfect and course volunteers were very efficient.
The awards ceremony was very well attended. Fanny packs were awarded 3 deep in 5 year age groups to age 94.

The Silver Strider booth was set up near the awards table. The booth featured the 3k Championship trophies and Silver Strider hats, visors, shirts and singlets.
