A small elite field of runners gathered for the first Ambassador 3k Race for 2025. Top runners from age groups 50 through 94 were present and their goals were varied. There were course records for each age group, waiting to be broken. There were spots in the TOP IO Rankings at stake. There was qualifying for 2025 Super Athlete status. Also, most importantly, points in the year long Ambassador Series.

A top notch group of volunteers were present to insure a successful race. Greeting the arriving runners, Candice Gill distributed race numbers to those already signed up and assigned numbers to those registering Day Of Race.

About ten minutes before the race start, Bruce Fisher lined us up for a group photo. Bruce would be photographing each finisher for his results report.

A few minutes before 10:00, Brent White, the course manager, set off for the turnaround position which he would be supervising.

I gave race instructions and the runners were off, precisely at 10:00 a.m., the designated start time. I assumed my position as timer and enjoyed a few minutes of relaxation before the first runner appeared. Robert Gil, assistant timer, joined me.

Laura White, who was in charge of the recording the finishers, was positioned at the end of the finishing chute awaiting the first finisher.

Suddenly, there he was. Kent Sizer, the expected winner, sprinting the final 400 yard straightaway. Soon afterward Vanessa Pearson, the first woman finisher, appeared.

The results were posted and runners gathered for the drawing. Offered were a $50 gift certificate from fleet Feet Sports and a free entry to the Rhody Run 5k or 10k. Tiare Bailey won the Rhody Run entry and “Lucky” Larry Larsen won the fleet Feet certificate. We are going to call him “Lucky” from now on because for the first time in our twenty year history, he won two drawings in a row. Larry won the drawing in our last race, The Dale Hall 3k.

After the race, some of of us went to Gig Harbors premium Mexican restaurant, Moctezuma’s for lunch.
