10/12/24 – Renton
Silver Striders ruled this race as they took the first 4 places overall. Keith Lerew, age 66, finished with a comfortable lead of 1 minute and 32 seconds, in first place. His time was 20:10. Keith was followed by Chris Fisher, age 55, in 21:42, Kent Sizer, age 69, in 22:29, and Brian Hile age 60, in 22:37. Cheryl Hile was the first female Silver Strider in 27:15.

The turnout at this race was very good. It set a record for Grand Prix Series ParkRun races. Our biggest turnout prior to this was on opening day at Des Moines. We had 64 finishers that day. We beat that record big time at this race with a turnout of 79 runners.

In an effort to increase race directors and runners awareness of Silver Striders at races, I sat up a Silver Strider booth at the Renton ParkRun. I had some give-away items as well as Silver Strider hats, visors, shirts and singlets for sale. My hope is that Silver Striders will wear one or more of these items at races.

I decided to forgo running the race myself, so that I could concentrate on this project. I plan to have the Silver Strider booth set up at Des Moines on Nov 9th, the Christmas Rush on December 14th and the Renton ParkRun on December 28th.

I have been working on the Grand Prix Series schedule for 2025. At the present planning stage, it appears we will have 4 Renton ParkRuns and 3 Des Moines ParkRuns on the 2025 schedule. I will also have 7 new races mixed in to give Grand Prix players the option of new experiences.
