x On Saturday, February 25th, a party was held at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Tukwila to honor the Super Athletes of 2022.  A large turnout of runners, their families, and friends gathered for the occasion.

To be a Super Athlete, a runner has to be among the 10 fastest in their age division at four distances: 5k, 10k, Half Marathon, and Marathon.  This amazing feat requires both speed and endurance.

Only 12 athletes over the age of 50, in the state of Washington, successfully achieved this goal in 2022.

Congratulations to:  Dave Anderson, Bruce Bethel, Doug Beyerlein, David Crawford, Judy Fisher, Ed Heckard, Robert Hoekman, Sandy Madden, John Phillips, Jahna Prine, Carol Sexton and Dave Sherman.

The event began with an excellent lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory followed by the awards presentation. The private banquet room was beautifully decorated by Nancy Larsen.

Bruce Fisher, as emcee, entertained everyone with his great sense of humor. Bruce’s daughter, Heidi, took photos.  Heidi is always an avid and loyal fan at Silver Strider events.

Each of the Super Athletes received a a gift certificate from Super Jock n Jill. Presentation of the highly coveted Super Athlete ring was the highlight of the afternoon.

It was a bittersweet moment for Charlea Sherman. Dave Sherman, an outstanding runner, had previously been a Super Athlete in 2016 and 2017. He again achieved Super Athlete in 2022.  On behalf of her husband, Charlea posthumously accepted the Super Athlete honor for Dave Sherman.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, a group photo was taken of the Super Athletes and guests. Cake was served, while the athletes mingled, admiring their rings, and discussing their running goals.

Congratulations again to these fine athletes on their incredible achievement!

Molly Childs asked everyone to sign a large poster size card for one of our former Super Athletes, Karen Lichtenstein.  Karen has been battling a serious illness and was unable to attend the party. Karen – you were deeply missed!

As always the Super Athlete Awards Party was a great event. Bruce, Nancy and everyone involved did an outstanding job making the luncheon party so enjoyable. I always look forward to seeing my Silver Strider friends and getting caught up on their latest running adventures. Until the next SS party, happy running to all. …. David Crawford

Bruce facilitated the ceremony with grace and humor. He did an amazing job, multitasking as MC and photographer. Nancy did a wonderful job of seating arrangements and décor, as always. Everyone was upbeat, talking and sharing with their fellow athletes.  I truly believe we all love these events as an opportunity to be together as a family. Good vibes abounded and we all acknowledged the presence of our fallen friends. …. Sandra Madden

Nanci and Bruce did a fantastic job and there were lots of good chats, hugs and great food. …. Diane Martin
