Roegner Park Auburn- Sept 9, 2023
The Silver Strider 5k Championship was held in conjunction with the Pacific Runderland 5k this year.
The course was perfect for the championship. It was certified and times were fast. The first mile was a little slower due to a hill near the start, but the 3rd mile was fast because the same spot was downhill coming back. The weather was ideal and it seemed like about 90% of the runners and walkers stayed for the drawings.
We should definitely have this race on our series schedule next year. The Race Director, Sherry Clark did a magnificent job making sure that things went off smoothly and Silver Strider TOP IO 5k Chairman, Ed Heckard, also did great making sure that each age group winner received their championship trophy.
The first male and female Silver Striders to cross the finish line were Kimmer Muenz the 2023 Women’s State Champion in the 65-69 age group, and Keith Lerew 2023 Men’s State Champ for age 65-69.

This race was also on the schedule for the Dave Sherman Series. So runners and walkers received series points. We still have 4 races left in the series so some age group winners have yet to be decided.
A few runners have already secured wins in their age divisions. They are, Edythe Hulet W85-89, Judy Fisher W80-84, Nancy Larsen W75-79, Sandra Madden W70-74, Jerry Dietrich M85-89 and Steve Husko M70-74.
The final race in the series will be the Christmas Rush 5k and 10k in December. The 10k will be the Silver Strider State 10k Championship for 2023.
Let’s not forget the Silver Strider 3k race in Gig Harbor On Sunday October 15th. Trophies to the top 3 in each 5 year age group for ages 50 to 89. Entry fee is only $8 before Sept 30th.
