       Our April interview is with Kimmer Muenz

April – 2022

Karen: Congratulations on being the first woman overall in the Renton Parkrun on February 26th, and you are ranked #1 (Women 60-64) in the current Top 10 for 5k times. We would like to know more about the factors that contribute to your success. Please describe your training routine, miles per week, and other exercises that help you prepare for races.

Kimmer: I don’t have a specific training for races rather I have been focusing on fitness. I try and run 3x a week, but do cross training another 3 days with either stairs, elliptical or bicycle. I have recently been focusing on core strength and balance exercises.

Karen: What are your goals for the year?

Kimmer: I really would like to qualify for BQ- I have yet to have success at racing that distance.

Karen: Which of your running achievements pleased you the most?

Kimmer: Running the Go-girl half marathon a few years ago where I set my PR of 1:48.

Karen: What is your favorite race?

Kimmer: My favorite race is the half marathon distance- far enough to not have to sprint but ends before I am totally spent.

Karen: Is there anything else you would like to tell the Silver Striders?

Kimmer: I recently had a lesson on watching electrolyte levels. I eat well but tend to not eat enough. I landed in the ER room last weekend, was taken by 911, because of critically low potassium levels. Came on very suddenly, so it was a good lesson for me. Hydrate!!
