The annual Grand Prix Series awards party has been held at the Old Spaghetti Factory for 6 years. The event this year was held at their new location. The room was spacious, the food was great, and the service tops. The Silver Strider theme prevailed. Tables were adorned with silver balloons.  The impressive display of silver trophies added to the anticipation of the awards.

I began my opening remarks by introducing this year’s team of volunteers.

Recognition and thanks were then given to THE TAB WIZARD, Dennis Zaborac, title sponsor of the Grand Prix Series.

Also recognized were GP contributing sponsors, TCMA, and Shoes n Feet.

Next to be thanked was the TOP IO title sponsor, SOUTH SOUND RUNNING who contributed shoe certificates to all of the age group winners.

Recognition was given to feature sponsors, Route 16 Running, Fleet Feet Sports in Tacoma, Super Jock n Jill of Seattle and our newest sponsor, West Seattle Runner.

Individual recognition began with an introduction of three “Super Athletes” from the Top IO – Judy Fisher, Sandra Madden, and Dennis Zaborac.

Next came a tribute to the Silver Strider teams who will be competing in the upcoming Rhody Run 12k.  Members on both teams, SilverWomen, and SilverMen, were introduced.

JERRY DIETRICH & BRUCE FISHER

I began the individual awards by presenting a trophy to Bruce Fisher for his excellent photography of our race events during the past year. Bruce also designed and promoted the Silver Strider calendar featuring our upcoming Grand Prix Series schedule.  It was with great appreciation that we recognized Bruce’s contribution to the Silver Striders.  In addition to the trophy, I also presented Bruce with a certificate for an 18 hole round of golf with cart at his favorite golf course.

Next a special surprise was presented to the Series Title Sponsor, the Tab Wizard – Dennis Zaborac. On May 29th, Dennis will be running his first ultramarathon, the Comrades Marathon in South Africa.  The Silver Striders presented Dennis with a custom embroidered bag filled with some fun-filled items he will need for the race.  Items included in the bag were a desert hat, snacks, toilet paper, shower wipes, and taxi fare in Krugerands.  A card, with a picture of the Silver Striders, was signed by all who were present at the party to wish Dennis good luck in the race.

After pointing out that Dennis has spread the word about the Silver Striders throughout his travels to Viet Nam, Japan, and now South Africa, I was pleased to present him, on behalf of the Silver Striders, with a Nike jacket.  The Grand Prix Series logo on the back makes Dennis officially our Silver Strider Goodwill Ambassador.
