Someone described Saturday’s weather as “miserable”.
Hah! A little wind and rain never stopped Silver Striders. Of the 77 hardy souls that came out to run in the 200th Renton ParkRun, 42 percent were Silver Striders.

Renton ParkRun is a fun, free, weekly event organised by volunteers. Celebrating their 200th anniversary, cake and cookies were offered for the occasion. Another milestone was celebrated by Wendy Sweeney who was completing her 50th ParkRun 5k.

John Phillips entered a new age group (M80-84) and celebrated by breaking 33 minutes.

Eighteen of the Silver Striders running were entered in the Dave Sherman Memorial Series and would be getting points. These runners meant business.

The 18 Memorial Series participants were:

Did you ever wonder why the Men’s 65-69 age group is always the most competitive? Going back to the Boomer races, it has been that way. Men enter that age group and suddenly they are fierce.

The Renton ParkRun #200 was a perfect demonstration. Men 65 to 69 took 3rd (Keith Lerew), 12th (Kent Sizer) and 15th (Steve Husko) places OVERALL!
