The Silver Strider is pleased to announce the Tab Wizard’s 2017-2018 Grand Prix Series. There are many exciting changes! Remember, You only need to finish eight of these races to be a series finisher and reap the rewards.

The Series will kickoff with the popular and challenging Rhody Run 12k in Port Townsend. The Rhody Run will be celebrating it’s 39th anniversary. Find out why this race is known as “The Run that Cares for the Runner.”

The Rhody Run will be followed by a new race making its debut in the 2017-2018 Series. The Flight For Sight 5k will be held in Everett on a certified flat and fast course. It’s your chance to make the Top Ten and earn Grand Prix points at the same time.

Another 5k has been added to the new Series schedule. Work up a good appetite as you race the Brunch Run 5k. You will be rewarded with brunch bites from Seattle’s best restaurants and treated to Bloody Marys or mimosas following the race.

For those who are seeking a certified flat and fast 10k in 2017, we have included the Orting Turkey Trot. This 10k course is an out and back along the Carbon River on the Foothills Trail. You don’t have to be a fast runner to appreciate this scenic course.

You have been telling us that you want more half marathons in the Series. To satisfy those of you who are hungry for longer distances, we are excited to announce that 2 more half marathons will premier in the next Grand Prix Series.

The Anacortes Art Dash Half Marathon is a “USATF certified run along the (mostly) flat, beautiful Anacortes waterfront.” This is your chance to enjoy a weekend at the Art Festival. The race will finish at the Port of Anacortes with festivities including the fine art show, Waterfront Pub and music on the Port Stage.

For those of you who love running at Alki Beach, we are pleased to announce that the Orca Half Marathon will be included in the Series schedule this year. This is a relatively flat, point to point course that runs along the water with spectacular views of the Seattle skyline. “You might even see a pod of Orcas while running.”

Some other changes and additions are worthy of note.

The FSRC Resolution Run 5k will no longer be held on New Year’s Day.  The race will now take place the first Saturday in January.

To earn Grand Prix points you must still run the 6 mile distance at the Road-OdendRun. If you don’t need points and just want to have a good time, why not take the option of running the relay as a 2-person team? Relay runners will receive credit toward their total number of races.

The Tortoise and Hare Handicap Fun Run will be held again in October at Point Ruston with a potluck lunch to follow at the beautiful Highlands Golf Course. It will still be a T-Shirt Bonus race.

Finally, there will be one more race making its debut in the 2017-2018 Grand Prix Series. Watch for the “Mystery Race” in April of 2018. The location and distance will be announced during the year. Be sure to check the Bulletins page!

For those of you who have participated in the Series before, welcome back.  We hope you will find the next schedule new and challenging.

For those new to the Series, you are just in time to join in the fun. It’s a great way to keep motivated throughout the year and to make some great friendships.
